Pearson pays homage to Palm Beach Styling of the 60’s.
October 2007
High Point, NC – At the 2007 Fall International Home Furnishings Market in High Point, linens and velvets continued to be the texture of choice at Pearson, while colors ranged from opulent burnished golds and coppers, to bright clear greens, mangos, and turquoises.
Metallic also played an important role, showing up on glazed linens, prints and even leathers. “We wanted to create a lighter palette, drawing inspiration from the plush regency look of Palm Beach Estates from the 60’s.” said Jennifer McConnell (Pearson, Director of Design.) “ Fretworks, embroideries, silks, linens and metallic all fit into that glamorous world.”
At the entrance of the showroom a dramatic gold linen is embroidered with oversized greek keys creating a stripe. Hand woven and hand embroidered in India, this fabric was designed exclusively for Pearson. Also shown were:

New Traditional and Relaxed Elegance is showcased at the
Pearson Company.
October 2007
High Point, NC - At the Fall International Home Furnishings Market in High Point NC., Pearson introduced over 30 new products to its extensive upholstery line. New Traditional pieces and Relaxed Elegance pieces were the two trends that dominated the Pearson Showroom. Of course, all new silhouettes featured the exceptional comfort and quality construction Pearson is known for.
Traditional pieces showed classic proportioning and sophisticated details, all executed with restraint in mind. Details were clean and not fussy, with recognizable silhouettes rethought for today’s interiors. Introductions also paid attention to the casual lifestyle, with exposed wood detailing , french seaming , and simple lines, all perfect for the casual lifestyle. As always, Pearson’s upholstery was accented with fringes, cords, plush throw pillows and decorative nails. Overall these pieces created shapes and contours that are sophisticated yet approachable, truly statement pieces that can be the focus of an interior. p>
“As a company we are beginning to see a trend for more casual upholstery. Our buyer understands quality upholstery, and wants a handmade, heirloom quality sofa with more casual, livable styling. This means simple, low arms, exposed wood details, something you could live on as a family. However, they see the benefits of purchasing upholstery that will last a lifetime.” said Jennifer McConnell (Pearson, Director of Design).
Some exceptional pieces introduced this market include:
- A new round cocktail ottoman features a tight boxed seat, over a beaded exposed wood seat rail. Raised on tall tapering wood legs, the intricate spider web stretchers add an unexpected ounce of elegance to this versatile piece.
- A pair of left and right arm chaises, featuring tight backs and arms, over a buttoned and boxed seat cushion, all raised on an exposed wood rail and tapered legs. These pieces create a glamorous retreat and are perfect for living rooms, dens and bedrooms alike.
- A new sofa featuring a exposed wood maple frame that outlines and punctuates the entire silhouette, front and back. Two boxed and welted back pillows, and two boxed and welted T seat cushions are raised over an upholstered seat and wood base on tall tapering wood legs. The simple roll arms are accented with welt, and the sofa is completed with two 20” knife edge toss pillows. Perfect for a discriminating buyer that would like quality, bench made upholstery for their casual lifestyle.
- A formal, traditionally styled sofa that continues the trend of new traditional. This sofa features three boxed back pillows over three boxed seat cushions. The seat is flanked by small, tightly tailored roll arms that rise to create modified wings. The sofa is then raised on a dressmaker skirt. The whole silhouette is finished with top stitching, and includes two 20” knife edge throw pillows. A bench seat cushion option is also available.

Shapely silhouettes, glamour, and plush comfort are showcased at the Pearson Company.
March 2007
High Point, NC - At the Fall International Home Furnishings Market in High Point NC., Pearson introduced over 20 new products to its extensive upholstery line. These pieces, feature shapely silhouettes, varied sizes and exceptional comfort; all features important in today’s interiors.
The new pieces incorporate inviting details, such as deep, bench seat cushions, box pleated skirts, and multi layered backs. Sofas are as interesting from back view as they are from the front. As always, Pearson’s upholstery is accented with fringes, cords, plush throw pillows and decorative nails. Overall these pieces create shapes and contours that are sophisticated yet approachable, truly statement pieces that can be the focus of an interior.
“Right now we are not seeing a trend in the market place in size. It seems that large or small, tall or short, anything goes,” said Jennifer McConnell (Director of Design), “Therefore, we are introducing some sofas this market that are over 100” long, and some that are under 80” in length that would look great in pairs.”
Some exceptional pieces introduced this market include:
- A long, low clean sofa is shown with squared off arms, complete with four boxed back pillows over four seat cushions. Shown in leather, the sofa is enhanced by top stitching, and it is raised on five petite tapering legs. This sofa measures 102” in length, and will command a room. A coordinating chair and ottoman are also available.
- A square cocktail ottoman features a tight low seat, with decorative cord and a tall kick pleat skirt. Shown in an oversized trellis pattern with contrasting banding, the ottoman is always a great substitution for the typical cocktail table.
- Bringing to mind the miniskirts we are seeing on fashion runways this spring, Pearson is showing an upholstered dining room chair complete with a pleated miniskirt of its own. Shown in silk, this chair features a restrained rolled tight back, with an attached boxed seat, all raised over a pleated short skirt and tapered, curved maple legs. The dining room chair is available with a kick pleated skirt as well.
- Taking its cues from its classic English cousin, a shapely barrel back wing chair is shown featuring a tight back raised over loose boxed seat cushion and tightly rolled arms on turned maple legs accented with ferrules and casters. The wing chair is available as a plain or tufted back.
- A glamorous, barrel shaped sofa is also new this market for Pearson. The generous rolled arms continue across the back of the sofa, creating a long soft curve. The bench seat cushion is also bowed in the front, and is raised over a tall box pleated skirt. The sofa is further accented with a mutli pillow, layered back.

“We never put all our eggs in one style basket. Rather, we hope to offer something for all Pearson customers, East Coast to West.” (Terry Allen, V.P. Design)
Some exceptional pieces introduced this market include:
- A high backed sofa with sloping arms which incorporates 5 multi-sized back pillows as well as two generous bolsters to its inviting silhouette. The sofa, which is executed in all over French seaming, includes a plush bench seat cushion, raised over a high kick pleat flounce.
- A forties-inspired slipper chair, complete with a soft inviting back bolster, a shaped back with notched corners, and a high kick pleat flounce. A pair would be the perfect out-in-the-room pieces for a glamorous grouping.
- A deep, boxed arm sofa, chair and ottoman featuring overall baseball stitching, and a boxed t-shaped back pillow layered behind an additional smaller boxed back pillow. This arrangement creates a unique “stepped” effect contributing to the uniqueness of the design. The tapered wedge feet that support this design are available in any of Pearson’s 35 fine finishes.
- Also notable is the addition of two new “Perching chair” designs to the Pearson line. These popular entertaining/conversational items have been a part of the offering for several years. “They take up the space of only an ottoman, but provide amazing comfort. You sit sideways with one arm over the low back, and that leaves the other hand free to hold a drink – or whatever. When the party is over, you may scoot them under the piano!” says Allen.
